It was there that bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero created this cocktail in an effort to capture the flavor and spirit of the tropics in a single glass. After months of experimentation, he discovered the perfect blend of Puerto Rican rum, fresh pineapple juice, and coconut cream a combination that quickly captivated hotel guests and soon, the entire world. Its success was so great that in 1978, the Piña Colada was declared the official drink of Puerto Rico, establishing the Caribe Hilton as the birthplace of this creation that embodies sweetness, freshness, and the true Caribbean spirit.
